felted flower brooch -wild orchid-

This –wild orchid- flower brooch is hand felted all together in 2 layers with extra-fine merino wool from New Zealand and Australia in orange, yellow, deep red and green colors. Also mulberry silk in blonde yellow is used to brighten up the flower. No “felt cutting ready-made flower”, no glue and no stitches, except on its back on which a safety pin is adjusted and felted over with green wool. The flower measures approximately 13-23 cm (5.1-9.1 in) diameter since it is asymmetrical and 55 cm (21.7 in) circumference.

Inspired by the peacock tail which contains spectacular beauty because of the large feathers, bright, iridescent colours and intricate patterns.

This nuno-felted scarf consists of chiffon silk (100%) in petrol colour and extra-fine (18 mic) merino wool from Australia and New Zealand in a punch of colours; violet, purple, lilac, turquoise, pink, blue, green, red, deep red and black colours! The petrol chiffon silk is used as a basis for the scarf and the wool is applied on the top in order to create the patterning.

This scarf is created with the wet felting technique. The distinction between this nuno-felted scarf and a simple felted item is that it contains also a different material except from wool, i.e. silk. It measures approximately 167 cm (65.7in) length and 35-42 cm (13.8-16.5in) width.

The combination of wool in thin layers and silk gives a very light and airy; sometimes even sheer fabric!
