nuno felted arm warmers -autumn leaves-

“The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold

Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall”

~ Nat King Cole “autumn leaves”

This pair of arm warmers is made of Australian Karakul-Merino wool (50%+50%) in a warm, natural light brown colour. In the arm warmers are also incorporated pieces of synthetic fabric with loose weave in orange-red colour, pieces of orange cotton and pieces of cotton gauze fabric in beige natural colour in order to create a rich palette of tones and unequal shapes and forms.

They are felted all together using the wet felting technique and the result that you see in the photos is called nuno-felting. The distinction between this pair of nuno-felted arm warmers and a simple wet-felted item is that it contains also a different material except from wool, i.e. cotton and synthetic fabric. Their edges are uneven from both sides and they can be worn till the middle part of the hand as half gloves.

They measure approximately 22-25 cm (8.7-9.8 in) length.

Since autumn is approaching my mood becomes a bit melancholic; the endless blue of the sea becomes slowly a memory of the summer and the deep red of cranberries governs my dreams, thoughts and inspiration!

This pair of wrist warmers is made of Australian extra-fine merino wool in a deep red resembling cranberries, orange and yellow colours. Additionally it used mulberry silk threads in blonde yellow to decorate them and to offer a more shiny effect. Their edges are uneven and they can be worn inside out; one side covered with the patterning that you see on the photos and the other simply with deep red wool.

They measure approximately 15-16 cm (5.9-6.3 in) length.

Artist Interview: QARAQUL by AnnukCreations

“Welcome to my July Artist Interview! My new interview takes me to Berlin, Germany, where I meet Katerina, a talented artist who works under her own brand QaraQul. She creates wonderful vibrant and colorful felted and nuno felted items that reflect her passion for life and love for color. As you know I have a passion for color, and another fascination of mine is with felt! So I was thrilled to know about a felter’s inspiration, and as I love Katerina’s wonderful work… here she is! Here she shares her artistic journey and inspiration with us!”
